This digital photobook was created during my studies at Ithaca College. I had been learning about the school-to-prison pipeline for my BA in Race, Power, and Resistance, and I was also learning how to create a photobook for my BFA in Film, Photography, & Visual Arts.

I reflected a lot on the fact that I attended a Talented and Gifted School that primarily taught my peers and me how to achieve the best standardized test scores. I later transferred schools and learned that it wasn't normal to not know my multiplication tables by the fourth grade.

As I write this blurb post-college, I recognize that there were moments when I took being on a college campus for granted. I joined as many clubs as I could and maxed out my credits until I was burnt out. Learning no longer felt like a privilege, but a chore.

My grandmother, Elizabeth Scriven, always emphasized the importance of "getting a good education." Living on Edisto Island in South Carolina, she walked several miles to and from school, no matter the rain or shine. And if you know Edisto heat, who am I to complain about the 2 train with no AC?
